How to Use the Caya® Diaphragm Correctly

Step-by-Step Guide for Hormone-Free Contraception

The Caya® diaphragm is a hormone-free contraceptive method. When used correctly together with diaphragm gel, it provides protection against unintended pregnancy.

To support correct use and help reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy, it is important to prepare, insert, check, and remove the Caya® diaphragm properly. This guide explains each step clearly.

Step 1: Preparation Before Use

  • Remove the Caya® diaphragm from its case.
  • Before first use, wash it with mild soap and warm water.
  • Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Apply a teaspoonful (approx.4ml) of diaphragm gel in the middle of the membrane. Applying some gel around the edges can also help with insertion.
  • Fold the diaphragm by gently pressing together the grip dimples.

Step 2: Find a Comfortable Position

Choose a position that feels comfortable for you, such as:

Step 3: Insert the Caya® Diaphragm

  • With your free hand, gently spread the labia.
  • Insert the diaphragm deep into the vagina, guiding it along the posterior vaginal wall (towards your back).
  • Push it in until the cervix rests inside the cup of the diaphragm.

Step 4: Check the Position

  • Use a finger to locate the cervix through the diaphragm.
  • The cervix should feel firm, similar to the tip of your nose.
  • It must be completely covered by the diaphragm membrane.

If you cannot feel the cervix or are unsure whether it is fully covered:

  • remove the diaphragm
  • apply additional diaphragm gel if needed
  • insert it again carefully

The Caya® diaphragm is positioned correctly when:

  • the cervix is fully covered.
  • the diaphragm rests securely between the posterior vaginal wall and the recess behind the pubic bone.

Once correctly positioned, the diaphragm can provide contraceptive protection and you are ready for intercourse.

Step 5: Removal After Use

  • After intercourse, the Caya® diaphragm must remain in the vagina for at least 6 hours.
  • Do not remove it earlier.
  • To remove the diaphragm, insert one finger into the vagina.
  • Gently hook your finger into the removal dome and pull the diaphragm out.
  • Do not leave the Caya® diaphragm in the vagina for longer than 24 hours in total.
